About Kevin
Meet Kevin Alston
Stronger relationships start with stronger self-awareness.
Kevin Alston is a coach, speaker and creator of the Inside Out Couples Method™, an approach designed to help committed couples better understand themselves, understand each other, communicate more effectively and intentionally strengthen their relationships.
The thinking behind the work
Start with what each person brings.
His approach is grounded in an important observation: we don't enter relationships empty-handed. We bring beliefs, expectations, experiences, habits, fears, communication styles, assumptions and ideas about what love and partnership should look like. Those internal factors influence what happens between two people.
Lasting relationship transformation begins within each person before it can fully happen between two people. Understanding what we bring creates more room to understand each other and make intentional choices together.
A different starting point
Growth without blame.
The objective isn't determining who's the bad partner or assigning blame. It's helping two people understand what is happening, what each is contributing, what they can do differently, and what kind of relationship they want to create going forward.
The work asks each person to take responsibility for what they can influence. That makes room for honesty without shame, and for change that belongs to both people.
The Inside Out philosophy
Kevin's philosophy
“You cannot control your partner's transformation. But you can take responsibility for your own—and two people committed to growth can transform what happens between them.”— Kevin Alston
What the work is designed to feel like
A clear process for meaningful work.
Working with Kevin is designed to feel direct, compassionate, respectful, structured and hopeful—a clear process rather than generic advice, without blame or shame, at whatever pace fits the couple.
Inside Out Couples provides coaching and educational services. Coaching is not psychotherapy, mental-health treatment, diagnosis, medical care or crisis intervention. When needs fall outside the appropriate scope of coaching, clients may be encouraged to seek assistance from an appropriately qualified professional.
